RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

HIGHLIGHTS

2nd largest national park in tanzania

A paradise for bird enthusiasts

The highest concentration of elephants in East Africa

BEST TIME TO GO

Ruaha offers access to wildlife sightings throughout the year, and the weather pattern is also the same as the rest of Tanzania. However, most visitors prefer to visit the park during the dry season, i.e from June to October. The reason? Spotting wildlife in the dry landscape is easy, and the weather conditions are ideal for fantastic game viewing.

IDEAL WEATHER

The middle of the dry season (June to October) is the ideal time to visit Ruaha National Park Tanzania because, during this time, the wildlife concentrates around the Great Ruaha River. Moreover, since bushes are thin, there are high chances of general viewing of wildlife.

WORST WEATHER

The park experiences short rains in November and December and long from March to May. That is why this time is not a prime time to watch wildlife during the Ruaha National Park safari. In addition, it is not a good time for other outdoor activities in the park. However, you will have the chance to take some good pictures of the animals in the rain and observe untamed nature and lush greenery as far as your eyes can see.

BEST TIME

The best time to visit Ruaha is when the rains are extremely uncommon and game viewing is at its best. If you visit Ruaha during such times, then the chances are you might see many of your favorite African animals.

HIGH SEASON

Since the weather from June to October is cooler and less humid than the rainy seasons, these months are high season in Ruaha. But although the sun shines all day, Ruaha is rarely crowded even during the peak tourist season.

LOW SEASON

March to May is a low season in Ruaha National Park due to the heavy rainfall in the region. Most visitors prefer not to book their trip to Ruaha during this time as there are fewer chances of enjoying the safari experience, and wildlife is also not easy to spot.

ABOUT RUAHA

Ruaha, the largest National Park in Tanzania and East Africa, is another pristine wilderness located in Southern Tanzania, about 130 km from Iringa. The park is not as popular as the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area because it is like a hidden gem yet to be discovered by tourists. Covering an area of about 130,000 sq km, Ruaha is named after the Great Ruaha River, which flows along its southeastern border.

The river is not only the source of water for the animals in the dry season but also a focus for game viewing. The park’s habitats include rolling hills, open grasslands, dense miombo and acacia woodlands and baobab trees. The lush green environment is home to an incredible range of wildlife, including over 571 magnificent bird species, East African cheetah and lion, African leopard, spotted hyena, wild dogs, hippopotamus, African buffalo, elands, impala, jackals, and many more.

All these aspects make camping in Ruaha National Park perfect for adventure lovers seeking to escape the crowds and, at the same time, explore untamed Africa.
